The Kenai River Brown Bears Junior A hockey team, currently based in Minnesota, have opened the regular season of the NAHL, in-spite-of the adjustments and hardships in dealing with COVID-19 requirements and safety protocols, with three victories and stand in first place in the Midwest Division.
Kenai River boosts a 3-1 record through four conference games, all of the games have been played against the Chippewa Steel.
The Brown Bears are back on the road Friday and Saturday, November 20-21 to battle the Janesville Jets at the Janesville Arena in Wisconsin.
Kenai River and Janesville share the top spot in the Midwest Division, both teams sporting 3-1 records and 6 points.
Friday Game Results: Kenai River 4 – Chippewa 2
The Brown Bears recorded a 4-2 victory over the Chippewa Steel, Kenai River’s third-straight win over the Steel. After a scoreless first period, both teams scored two, second period goals with Porter Schachle and Adam Beauvais scoring for the Brown Bears. The Brown Bears owned the third period with goals by Jeffery Lee and Daymon Dodge for the 4-2 win. Danny Fraga recorded 43 saves in goal for Kenai River.
Saturday Game Results: Chippewa 4 – Kenai River 3
The Brown Bears suffered their first defeat of the regular season on Saturday with a 4-3 loss to the Steel. Tied at 1-1 after one period and 2-2 after two periods of hockey, the Steel outscored Kenai River 2-1 in the third period after Theo Thrun gave the Brown Bears a 3-2 lead just two minutes into the third period. Early Brown Bear goals were scored by Adam Beauvais and Brandon McNamara. Danny Fraga recorded 26 saves in goal for Kenai River.
