It’s NAHL playoff season!

The good news: The Kenai River Brown Bears will host a Midwest Division playoff game at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on Friday, April 28th.

The bad news: The Brown Bears are down two games to none in the best-of-five series against the Minnesota Wilderness after a pair of losses in Minnesota.

The first round of the Midwest Division playoffs opened with the Wilderness sweeping the Brown Bears over the weekend, recording two victories and now needing only one win to advance to the division championship series.

Minnesota 3 – Kenai River 1

Topped with an empty-netter to close the game, Minnesota downed Kenai River 3-1 in the opening game of the Midwest Division best-of-five series.

Ryan Finch staked Kenai river to a short-lived, first period lead with a goal late in the period. The Wilderness answered on a Gunnar Thoreson goal and the period ended 1-1. The Wilderness scored a goal in the second and an empty-net goal to close-out the 3-1 victory.

Minnesota 2 – Kenai River 1

The Wilderness opened the scoring in the first period and added a second period goal en route to a 2-1 victory on Saturday and a 2-0 lead in the playoff series. The Brown Bears only goal came off the stick of Ashton Christman in the third period.
