Brown Bears Open Home Series With 4-2 Win Over Jr. Blues

Two first period goals combined with a pair of second period goals pushed the Kenai River Brown Bears past the Springfield Jr. Blues in game one of a three-game home series between Kenai River and Springfield on Thursday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

 

Kenai River 4 – Springfield 2

Caden Triggs opened the scoring for Kenai River with a goal at 11:19 and Bryce Monrean added a Brown Bear goal at 18:28 for a 2-0 Kenai River lead in the first period.

In the second period, Triggs added a second goal at 5:53 and the Brown Bears owned a 3-0 advantage over the Jr. Blues.  Springfield scored a Connor Smith goal; then the Brown Bears regained their three-goal lead with a Luke Panchisin power play goal.

Springfield added a single goal in the third period.  Final Score: Kenai River 4, Springfield 2.

 

Kenai River improves to 4-16 and the Jr. Blues drop to 13-8-0-1.

Kenai River hosts Springfield on Friday and Saturday with 7:30 p.m. game times each night.

Friday’s game is Hilcorp Night with free admission for anyone bringing a minimum of two, non-perishable items for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.
