Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

The Kenai River Brown Bears are on the move to Alaska and preparing for the first intrastate weekend of Junior A hockey scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Fairbanks with the Brown Bears facing-off against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

Kenai River hits the ice against the Ice Dogs on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. each night at the Big Dipper Arena.  The Brown Bears are currently 1-7-0-0 on the season with all games played in the Lower 48; Fairbanks stands at 5-2-0-1 and opens a six-game homestand with a pair of games against the Brown Bears.

Kenai River and Fairbanks play in a newly-expanded Midwest Division of the NAHL, with eight teams in the division in 2021-22 and the top four teams advancing into the playoffs.  In 2021, Kenai River advanced to the Robertson Cup finals after finishing fourth in the five-team division.  Kenai River fell in the NAHL championship series to the Minnesota Magicians.  The Midwest Division has added the Minnesota Wilderness (from the Central Division), Springfield Jr. Blues (did not play in 2020-21) and the Anchorage Wolverines.
