Brown Bears Take Two Home Games: Back On The Road

The Kenai River Brown Bears Junior hockey team defended home ice with a two-game sweep of the Wisconsin Windigo at the Soldotna Regional Sports Center, improving Kenai River to a tie for fourth place in the Midwest Division of the NAHL.

 

Kenai River 3 – Windigo 2

The Brown Bears, on Friday, opened with a goal in the first period, traded goals in the second period and scored a tie-breaking, game-winning goal late in the third period for a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin; breaking a four-game, road losing streak.  Hayden Walters scored the final two goals for the Brown Bears.

Kenai River 3 – Wisconsin 1

The Brown Bears completed a sweep of the Windigo on Saturday with a 3-1 victory.  Kenai River broke a 1-1 tie mid-way through the second period with a power-play goal by Ryan Finch.  Jacob Zwirecki scored an insurance goal in the final minute of the second period for a 3-1 Brown Bears victory.

 

Kenai River return to the road, traveling for a two-game series against the Chippewa Steel on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4.

 

In the Club 49 Cup Standings, Kenai River still holds the third position with 7 points; the Anchorage Wolverines top the standings with 17 points and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs stand at 13 points.  Kenai River stands at 3-5 against the Wolverines and 0-2 against the Ice Dogs.
