The Kenai River Brown Bears Junior A hockey team returns to Alaska and returns to face the #1 team in the Midwest Division of the NAHL for Kenai River’s next road weekend.
The Brown Bears face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Friday and Saturday, January 14-15 at the Big Dipper Ice Arena in Fairbanks. Fairbanks owns the best record in the Midwest Division with 23 wins and are tied with the New Jersey Titans with the best record in the entire NAHL.
Kenai River returns to Alaska following three-straight losses to the Janeville Jets last week.
Janesville 4 – Kenai River 3 SO
The Brown Bears fell 4-3 on Thursday, January 6th in a shootout with the Jets. Janesville lead 3-0 after one period and the Brown Bears scored single goals in each period to tie the contest in regulation. Janesville earns the victory with a goal in the fourth round of the overtime shootout.
Janesville 6 – Kenai River 0
The Bears were shutout on Friday night allowing four goals in the third period.
Janesville 3 – Kenai River 2 OT
Kenai River and Janesville traded goals through the first two periods and held each other scoreless in the third period on Saturday. Tied at 2-2, Janesville scored just :16 seconds into the overtime for the 3-2 Midwest Division victory.
Kenai River currently stands in eighth place in the eight-team Midwest Division of the NAHL with a record of 7-22-3-2 and 19 points. Fairbanks leads the Midwest Division with a record of 23-11-0-1 and 47 points. The Anchorage Wolverines stand in third with a record of 19-12-3-0 and 41 points.
