Brown Bears Sweep Last Place Wisconsin Windigo

The Kenai River Brown Bears, in their second home weekend series, took two from the first-year Wisconsin Windigo in North American Hockey League action at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

 

The Brown Bears added a pair of victories and four points to their Midwest Division leading 23 points and improved to 11-4-1-0.  the Windigo drop to 4-9-1-0 and own last place in the division.

 

Kenai River 2 – Wisconsin 1  Overtime   Friday

The Brown Bears opened the scoring with a first period goal off the stick of Jack Anderson.  Following a scoreless second period, the Windigo tied the game with a Ryan Berglund.

In the overtime period, Kotaro Tsutsumi netted the game-winner with :56 seconds remaining.  Bryant Marks recorded 24 saves in goal for Kenai River.

 

Kenai River 5 – Wisconsin 0

Kenai River shut out the Windigo 5-0 on Saturday in the second game of the two-game series on Saturday.

The Brown Bears scored a single goal in the first period by Hayden Walters and added a second period goal by Bryce Monrean.

Three, third period Brown Bear goals locked in the victory with goals by Monrean, Walters and Owen Penny.  Nils Wallstrom recorded the save in goal for Kenai River with 34 saves.

 

Kenai River continues the current home stand with a three-game series against the Chippewa Steel running Thursday through Saturday, October 27-29 at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.  Thursday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday are both set for 7:30 p.m. puck drop.

 

The Brown Bears games will follow the Soldotna Stars games in the Peninsula Ice Challenge which also runs Thursday through Saturday, October 27-29 at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.  SoHi plays at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday and 4:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
