After posting a 5-1 home ice record at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex, the Kenai River Brown Bears travel to Fairbanks for a two-game series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs at the “home-team friendly” Big Dipper Arena with games scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 7-8.
The Brown Bears vs Ice Dogs series is the first set of games in the Alaska Airline Cup series.
The Brown Bears currently stand at 21-21-1-1 with 44 points and have locked-in a playoff spot; Fairbanks stands at 22-19-2-1 and 47 points and is one position ahead of Kenai River and currently third in the Midwest Division. The fourth seed, following the regular season, will face the #1 seed Janesville Jets in the playoff’s first round.
Kenai River and Fairbanks have faced-off four times in the 2020-21 season. Fairbanks owns a 3-1 advantage in head-to-head games played outside of Alaska. The regular season closes with the Brown Bears hosting Fairbanks at the SRSC on May 14-15.
Alaska Airlines Cup
New to the 2021 hockey season, The Kenai River Brown Bears and Fairbanks Ice Dogs will compete for the Alaska Airlines Cup.
The Alaska Airlines Cup will be awarded to the team with the best head-to-head record in the upcoming four-game series between the Brown Bears and Ice Dogs.
In 2021-22, the Alaska Airlines Cup will be contested between three Alaska-based teams: Brown Bears, Ice Dogs and Anchorage Wolverines.
