Brutal Year for Local Iron Dog Champion

Scott Davis’ Team 7 achieved second place in this year’s Iron Dog race, but said it was one of the most brutal years.

Davis: “Along the way I think I may have had a little too aggressive of a pace, maybe it’s just racing the Iron Dog trail for 75,000 miles you’re going to eventually crash, I’m not exactly sure what it was but I crashed, broke some ribs, tore my spleen, got a collapsed lung from it. I did that northbound and ended up riding all the way home with it.”

He said over the years he has had different riding partners but his most recent, 24 year-old Aaron Bartell, worked really well together despite a 30 year difference.

Davis: “And it’s kind of a funny partnership, it’s been a great mix, he brings a new excitement to the race for me and he was willing to accept the changes that I implemented. I changed how I trained, I changed how I raced, I changed everything, I just threw caution to the wind and our motto this year was ‘Checkers or Wreckers’, I was going to know that when I got to the finish line in 2015 that I left nothing on the table and I think we accomplished that.”
