In this year’s ABL, wild variations and inconsistencies plague all the teams. Thus, the Oilers have drubbed the league leaders by scores of 15-1, 9-2 and 13-3 … but were on the receiving end in a 12-2 blowout against the Bucs on Thursday.
The Bucs and Oilers were close through 6 innings, with the Peninsula team trailing by 4-2, when a 7-run seventh inning by the Bucs and a single run in the 8th, put the game out of reach.
Oiler starting pitcher Ryan Brown was rocked for 4 runs in the opening frame. Mose Hayes came on in relief and seemed to have the Bucs contained through the 6th. Meanwhile, the Oilers scraped together 2 runs in the 6th by singles from Griffin and Costello, to be knocked home by Ty Thomas. Hayes held the Bucs in the 6th but was bombed in the fateful seventh, yielding 5 earned runs.
