The State Senate will take public comment today and tomorrow on their version of the budget, which is expected to go to a floor vote Friday.
Senator Charlie Huggins said the impacts will be wide and deep…
Sen. Huggins(R-Wasilla): “I’d just like to compliment Alaskans. With just a few exceptions, Alaskans understand the budget crunch we’re in and the fact that there are reduction in the budget that have to happen and they’re big numbers and a lot of people and a lot of commodity areas are going to feel that pain.”
Kenai Peninsula Senator Peter Micciche chairs several finance subcommittee, where long-term changes have been made…
Sen. Peter Micciche(R-K. Pen): “The efforts today on the cuts that we’re forced to make in these budgets are just to reduce the budget on our kids and grandkids, right? We need to get control of our spending and understand what realistic revenues are going to look like in the future, make sure those two numbers match.”
The Senate changes will be put before the House. If they disagree with the deeper cuts, a conference committee of Senate and House negotiators will hammer out the details.
