Budget, LNG Pipeline Weighing on Legislators’ Minds

We’ve hit day 56 of this 90-day Legislative session and two major issues are still circling through State committees…

Sen. Coghill(R-North Pole): “We know that we have to pass as slim of a budget as we can. The other issue that we really have to do, in my view, is we have to know the pathway on getting natural gas to market.”

Senate Majority Leader John Coghill said it’s been a difficult road on LNG issues…

Sen. Coghill(R-North Pole): “The communication between the Legislature and the Governor, still I think, there are things that need to be worked out.”

When it comes to the budget, Senator Anna MacKinnon said the state needs to “put the brakes” on spending…

Sen. MacKinnon(R-Eagle River): “With a $3.5 billion shortfall, at least out there right now as projections go, and looking forward into FY16 that same revenue shortfall, we need to pay close attention to every penny, nickel, and dime that Alaska’s investing.”

As we’ve previously reported, the operating budget cleared the House last week and is now moving through the Senate.
