The Legislature is yet to vote on a state spending plan as the overtime clock ticks on.

 

Senate Minority Leader Berta Gardner insisted on the 24-hour rest period between when the conference committee produced their report Saturday evening and when the Legislature votes on the proposal.

 

Speaking in the Senate Finance Committee Saturday, Co-Chair Anna MacKinnon outlined the state’s fiscal position…

Sen. MacKinnon(R-Eagle River): “The State of Alaska is currently facing, in FY15, that is currently before July 1st of this year, a $3.9 billion deficit, which means a draw on reserves.”

 

MacKinnon said FY16 is heading for another $3.5-$4 billion deficit, depending on crude oil production and sale.

 

The Senate has cut nearly $375 million from the operating budget to date and $487 million of capital spending.
