The Nikiski Bulldogs, #1 seed from the Southcentral conference, recorded a pair of victories in the opening rounds of the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships being contested at the Alaska Airlines Center on the campus of UAA.
Nikiski held-off Barrow in a hard-fought winner’s bracket match on Thursday afternoon, downing the Whalers 25-14, 14-25, 25-18, 18-25 and 15-8; Nikiski winning the decisive fifth game.
The Bulldogs advance into the winner’s semi-final to play Mt. Edgecombe on Friday afternoon at 3:15 p.m.
A win and Nikiski advances to the 3A championship game on Saturday at noon; a loss and Nikiski continues play at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday advancing into the final four.

ASAA State Volleyball: Early Thursday Results
The Nikiski Bulldogs recorded a three-game sweep of the Monroe Rams in the opening round of the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships being contested at the Alaska Airlines Center on the campus of UAA.
Nikiski won game one 25-14, game two 25-11 and game three 25-18 .
The Bulldogs advance to a winner’s bracket, quarter-final on Thursday afternoon. Nikiski will face Barrow, a first-round winner over Seward, in the 3:15 p.m. game at UAA.
The ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships are a double-elimination format tournament with the championship game scheduled for Saturday at noon.
