Bulldogs Harpooned In Final Minutes In Football Opener

In the Nikiski Bulldogs season opener at the farthest North football field in America,  Nikiski lead until the final :65 seconds before falling to the Barrow Whalers 12-8 in high school football’s first weekend of the regular season.

Barrow 12 – Nikiski 8

The Bulldogs held an 8-6 lead at the half with a first half rushing touchdown by James Hemphill.  Following a scoreless third quarter, Nikiski drove to the Whalers 1-yard line; however, the Bulldogs were turned-away at the goal line just 1:13 into the fourth quarter.  Barrow then mounted a 99-yard touchdown drive, using nearly ten minutes of the clock, to take a 12-8 lead.

The Bulldogs final drive ended on an interception with :30 seconds remaining.  Final Score: Barrow 12, Nikiski 8.
