The Nikiski Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in Denali Conference football with a 52-42 victory over Valdez on Saturday at Nikiski High School.
The Bulldogs recorded a season-high seven touchdowns; two passing and five rushing. Quarterback Brady Bostic threw a pair of passing touchdowns to Seth Payne and Sam Grenier and Dwyght Mullins each rushed for two touchdowns. Truit McCaughey added a touchdown on the ground. Bostic also intercepted two passes for the Bulldog defense.
The game was not as close as the final score as Nikiski lead 22-0 at the half and 30-14 after three quarters.
Nikiski travels to Seward on Friday, October 1st for a season-ending conference game against Seward.
Denali Conference Update
The Denali Conference is allotted only one berth to the Division III football playoffs and the Monroe Rams are currently unbeaten in conference play and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Nikiski, should the Bulldogs defeat Seward and improve to 3-1 in the Denali Conference.
The Mid-Alaska Conference qualifies three teams to the Division III playoffs. Redington earns the top seed with an undefeated record. Houston earns the #2 seed and Kenai holds the #3 seed with a 1-2 conference record.
