The Nikiski Bulldog football team built an early 20-0 lead; surrendered 22 unanswered points to Seward; then rallied with 10 points in the third quarter for a 32-22 Denali Conference football victory on Friday in Seward.
Nikiski 32 – Seward 22
The Bulldogs opened Friday’s road contest in Seward with touchdowns on each of Nikiski’s first three possessions for a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Quarterback Braeden Porter scored on a 2-yard run to open the scoring. Following an interception by Dwyght Mullins, Mullins scored on a 6-yard run and scored on a 32-yard run. Seward’s Gideon Schreck scored three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter for a 22-20 Seward lead. The second half was plagued by fumbles on both sides.
Nikiski scored on back-to-back rushing touchdowns of 2 yards and 59 yards by Mullins in the third quarter. Seward’s second half offense recorded two fumbles, two punts and turned the ball over on downs.
Final Score: Nikiski 32 – Seward 22.
Nikiski plays at home on Saturday, August 27th against Eielson High School with a scheduled noon kick-off.
