With only three teams remaining in the Denali Conference for Division III football and only one playoff berth allotted; the Nikiski Bulldogs recorded a pivotal 42-7 conference victory over Eielson on Saturday at Nikiski High School.
The victory made even more important with the Bulldogs mid-season schedule falling-apart due to the demise of the football programs at Monroe and Valdez.
Nikiski 42 – Eielson 7
The Bulldogs dominated field position and time of possession and defensively shutdown Eielson in a 42-7 conference victory.
The Bulldogs defense recorded an interception, a fumble recovery and forced the Ravens to turn the ball over on downs three times.
Nikiski opened the scoring with an 8 1/2 minute drive capped by an 8-yard touchdown run by James Hemphill. Nikiski added a 27-yard touchdown run by Dwyght Mullins in the second quarter, the first of four touchdowns scored by Mullins.
Leading 14-0 at the half, Nikiski allowed a 66-yard kick-off return for Eielson’s Niko Alverado to draw the Ravens to within a touchdown at 14-7. Eielson would not score again.
Nikiski, in the second half, scored on a 53-yard Mullins run, a 26-yard Mullins run, a 65-yard Mullins run and a 2-yard Sam Yerkes touchdown run. Mullins lead the Bulldog attack rushing for over 200 yards for the game.

Bulldogs Schedule Update
Nikiski will fill the week four schedule with a game against the East Anchorage JV team, scheduled for Saturday, September 3rd in Anchorage. Nikiski will work to fill two vacancies in their schedule on September 9th an d 17.
The Bulldogs will meet Seward in Denali Conference play on the final week of the regular season set for September 30th.
