The Nikiski boys basketball team notched its first 3A Peninsula Conference victory and the Cook Inlet Academy boys rolled over Holy Rosary in 1A Peninsula Conference basketball on Tuesday .
Nikiski Boys 55 – Homer 53
David Weathers sealed the Bulldog boys first conference victory with a pair of freethrows with :05 seconds remaining to break a 53-53 tie and push the Bulldogs past Homer 55-53 in Peninsula Conference action.
Nikiski built a 12-point lead early in the fourth quarter; however the Mariners, on the strength of a 23 point fourth quarter, closed to tie the game at 51-51. A pair of freethrows by Braeden Porter gave Nikiski a 53-51 lead; Homer answered with a Morgan Teche goal to tie at 53-53.
For the game, Drew Handley scored 18 points to lead all scorers.
Homer Girls 49 – Nikiski 31
The Mariners took an early 16-9 lead and never looked back, defeating Nikiski 49-31 in Peninsula Conference basketball. Sydney Shelby led the Mariners with 15 points; Savanna Stock topped the Bulldog girls with seven points.
The Bulldogs travel to Grace Christian on Friday to face the Grizzlies in Peninsula Conference basketball.
Cook Inlet Academy Boys 76 – Holy Rosary 45
The Eagles opened a 24-6 lead in the first quarter and held a 30+ point lead for most second half enroute to a 76-45 victory over Holy Rosary at CIA on Tuesday. Brady Baeten scored 17 points and Ian McGarry added 16 points for the Eagles.
CIA hosts Lumen Christi on Thursday in Peninsula Conference action with games scheduled for 4:30 and 6 p.m.
