Bulldogs Split With King Cove In Non-Divisional Basketball

King Cove continued its whirl-wind, road trip through Southcentral Alaska with a pair of non-divisional games at Nikiski High School on Wednesday; the King Cove Rookie girls defeating Nikiski 48-42 and the Nikiski boys downing the King Cove T-Jacks 67-43.

 

Nikiski Girls 42 – King Cove 48

Lead by a 27 point effort by Elaina Mack, the Rookies held off Nikiski 48-42 in non-conference basketball between the 1A reigning state champions and the 3A reigning state runner-up Bulldogs.  Nikiski lead 15-9 after one quarter and King Cove took the lead 26-24 at the half.  The Rookies built a nine point lead after three quarters 42-31.  Lillian Carstens lead Nikiski with 14 points.

Nikiski 67 – King Cove 43

The Nikiski boys, on the strength of six, three-point baskets in the first quarter, built a 25-10 lead in the first and cruised to a 67-43 victory over the King Cover T-Jack boys.  Noah Litke lead Nikiski with 24 points, including six, three-pointers; Michael Mysing scored eight points, all in the first quarter.

 

Nikiski travels to Nome to face the 3A Nome Nanooks on Friday and Saturday, February 14-15.  Friday’s games are scheduled for 7 & 8:30 p.m. with the boys varsity playing the first game.  Saturday’s schedule is for 4 & 5:30 p.m. with the girls varsity leading off.
