Bulldogs Win 3A Volleyball Championship In “Winner-Takes-All” Finale’

The Nikiski Bulldogs held-off the Valdez Buccaneers 30-22 in a championship “winner-takes-all” 30-point final game at the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships at the Alaska Airlines Center on the campus of UAA on Saturday night.

 

The Nikiski Bulldogs dropped their first tournament game in the championship pairing against Valdez three games to one.  Nikiski lost in game one 25-17; won game two 25-21 and fell 25-22, 25-22 in games three and four.

 

The Buccaneers had an earlier tournament loss which set up a winner-takes-all championship game between the Bulldogs and Bucs.  By rule, the “if necessary” game is one game to 30 points.

 

Nikiski earns the 3A state title 30-22 in the final game.  Game details will be available later.

Valdez 3 – Grace 0  Valdez advances to championship game/ Grace finishes third

Friday

Nikiski 3 – Grace 0   29-27, 25-17, 25-19   Nikiski advances to 3A Championship Game on Saturday

Valdez 3 – Homer 0  Valdez advance to 3A Championship Game on Saturday

4A ASAA State Volleyball

The reigning, three-time champion Dimond Lynx advance to the 4A Volleyball state championship with an undefeated record going into Saturday’s 5 p.m. contest against West Anchorage.

 

The Soldotna Stars went 1-2 in tournament play and were eliminated on Friday in a four-game match against Colony.  The Stars won game one 25-23; however, fell 25-22, 25-13, 25-21 for SoHi’s second tournament loss.
