Burn Closure for the Kenai Peninsula Lifted

Due to recent rainfall and increased humidity the burn closure on federal, state and private lands for the Kenai Peninsula is rescinded. The City of Kenai has also lifted their burn ban, though a burn suspension is in place (this means campfires and personal warming fires are permitted).

 

This is effective at 12:01pm, Saturday, May 31, 2014.

 

This includes Chugach National Forest lands on the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai Fjords National Park, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation.

 

Only cooking, warming and signaling fires are allowed.  These fires must be located on and surrounded by mineral soil that is free from materials that will carry fire. Within the Kenai Fjords National Park, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kenai Peninsula State Parks, campfires may only be in campgrounds with metal fire rings/grates.

 

The State Forester makes these determinations pursuant to statutory authority (AS 41.15.050).
