Burn Suspension Lifted On Kenai Peninsula Following Rainfall

The burn suspension on the Kenai Peninsula has been lifted following recent rainfall across much of the area, the Division of Forestry & Fire Protection announced Monday, June 30th, 2025.

 

As of 9:00 a.m. on June 30, 2025, residents are again allowed to conduct open burning under large and small burn permits. The Division says recent precipitation has reduced fire danger, but officials are urging the public to remain cautious as drier weather is expected in the coming weeks.

 

Fire resources remain limited on the Kenai Peninsula, and officials stress that residents must be vigilant when burning. Burn permit regulations require having water on site, clearing ground to mineral soil around the burn, burning only natural materials, and staying with the fire until it is completely out and cold to the touch.

 

Burn permits are required and can be obtained online at https://dnr.alaska.gov/burn/fireareas or at local fire departments. Residents can also contact the local Division of Forestry office for questions about permits.

 

The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection evaluates weather and fuel conditions daily to determine local fire danger levels. The Burn Permit Hotline at 907-260-4269 is updated regularly with information on wind advisories, burn suspensions, and burn closures.
