Alaska State Troopers responded this morning to a report of a deceased man in the roadway on Robinson Loop. Beth Ipsen with the Alaska State Troopers said the 19-year-old man was found before dawn…

Ipsen: “Well we got a call that there was an individual laying deceased in the middle of the road. It was Robinson Loop near Oomingnak St. Troopers got the call at 6:25am.”

Rumors suggested a school bus had either been present or found the 19-year-old Sterling man who reportedly committed suicide, however Ipsen said that was inaccurate.

Ipsen: “The school bus was in the area and I guess pulled up, it was dark this morning so we don’t think that anybody on a school bus saw anything. And there was a vehicle between the school bus and the scene.”

Pegge Erkeneff with the School District confirmed there were seven students on the bus at the time and none saw the man’s body…

Erkeneff: “Our Bus Route 12 came upon a tragic incident that had already taken place on Robinson Loop in Sterling. The bus was not involved with the incident and no one on the bus saw the incident occur. The bus turned around, with the help of a citizen on the scene who had alerted Troopers, left the area immediately and students continued to their respective schools. It was all secondary-aged students and the bus was serving Kenai Alternative School, River City Academy, Skyview Middle School, Soldotna High School, and Soldotna Prep.”
