Busy Morning For The Kenai Fire Department

At about 8:15am today, the Kenai Fire Department responded to a dryer fire followed by the smell of gas coming from the United Parcel Service (UPS) building, near the Kenai airport around 9:00am.

KFD Captain James Dye…

Dye: “At approximately 8:15 this morning, we responded to an apartment complex off Tinker Lane and Auk Street for a dryer fire. Upon arrival we found smoke coming from the structure, we entered the structure, ultimately put out the flames that were near the dryer, removed the dryer from the structure and we continued to ventilate the building. Other than that, there was no other damage or injuries.”

Shortly after the fire was put out in the apartment complex, KFD responded to the smell of gas at UPS…

Dye: “Paving operations are ongoing on the airport. It appears to be on the south end. The odors are coming from that. We monitored the air in the area, after being called to the UPS structure. We found no levels of explosive limits, which would be common with the natural gas in the area. It just appears to be unfortunate nuisance odors coming from those operations on the airport.”
