A three-point buzzer-beater by Mt.Egdecombe’s Mason Ivanoff dropped with no time remaining and pushed the Braves past the Soldotna Stars 55-53 in the Saturday 7th-8th Place game at the Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond High School.
SoHi lead 51-50 with :20 seconds remaining before allowing a basket and a foul to the Braves; Mt. Edgecombe missed the freethrow for a 52-51 Brave lead.
SoHi’s Ethan Sewell was fouled and made two freethrows to give SoHi a 53-52 lead with five seconds remaining. Mt. Edgecombe’s Ivanoff launched a three-pointer before the final buzzer and scored the game-winner 55-53.
Ivanoff lead the Braves with 14 points. Ethan Sewell topped the Stars with 23 points and Andrew Pieh added 11 points.
SoHi finishes tournament play at 0-3. The Stars travel to Homer to face the Mariners on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and radiokenai.com. Schedule change: No girls varsity game on Tuesday in Homer.
