Alaska State Troopers received a report that a backpack, fishing poles, and a loose dog were found near the waters edge of Hidden Creek Trail in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge on Thursday evening, according to the online trooper dispatch.
On Friday, Alaska State Troopers responded to the area with U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers to locate the items. Investigation revealed that the items belong to Michael Crawford, age 39 of Homer, who was camping and recreating in the area.
Crawford’s vehicle and camper were located, but he was not with either of them. He was last heard from on Wednesday, April 22.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Alaska State Park Rangers, Alaska Wildlife Trooper aircraft, Alaska State Trooper Helo-3 helicopter, the Alaska Dive Rescue Team, and Crawford’s friends and family have been conducting coordinated searches in the area.
