The Kenai Peninsula received over $80 million for capital projects from the budgets signed by Gov. Sean Parnell yesterday.
Borough Mayor Mike Navarre said they are very happy with the budget.
Navarre: “I think that’s in part because we worked well with the legislature this year all of our projects were part of either our priority booklet we send down there or if we had things that we put in after that they were well documented and I think that we had great help from our legislators in order to help support those and we want to thank them of course and there’ll be some projects all across the peninsula from Seward to Homer.”
The Kenai Peninsula Borough got $4 million for road projects.
Now that the Governor has signed the bill, Navarre said they hope to get the projects started soon.
Navarre: “Now that the Governor’s signed it the next step in the process is that we have to write ordinances accepting and appropriating those funds and we’ve already begun the process of getting those in place so that we can get those turned around and the funding will be available July 1, and we can get started on some of those projects or finish some of those projects fairly quickly.”
