The Alaska Senate gaveled in the 34th Alaska State Legislature on Tue. Jan.21. The 14-member Senate Majority announced their legislative priorities for the legislative session, which will build upon previous efforts to strengthen Alaska’s economy.

Senator Jesse Bjorkman and Representatives Justin Ruffridge, Bill Elam, and Sarah Vance joined Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom to sign their oath documents, then were later sworn in during House and Senate sessions. 

43-year-old Kevin VanKleeck, who was not allowed on the guest house owner’s property, entered the house and immediately entered a verbal altercation with the resident.

The Alaska State Fair is awarding scholarships to Alaska high school students. This year, the Fair will award $8,000 in scholarships.

The Rotary Club and Girl Scout Troop 210 teamed up to build bucket trees to prevent wildfires in Alaska. 

In his order, President Trump establishes “an immediate end to the assault on Alaska’s sovereignty and its ability to responsibly develop [its] resources for the benefit of the Nation.”

Representative Sarah Vance (R-House District 6) and Senator Jesse Bjorkman (R-Senate District D) each pre-filed a trio of bills. 

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is expected through Turnagain Pass with total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches possible.

Grant applications are available through the Federal Specialty Crop Block, a federal program provided by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service and administered by the Alaska Division of Agriculture.

Trump, who took office for a second time Monday, said he planned to “restore the name of a great president, William McKinley, to Mount McKinley, where it should be and where it belongs.
