After having recently adopting a resolution that would authorize the Soldotna City Manager to issue an invitation for beetle kill hazard tree mitigation efforts on select city properties within close proximity to the city’s campgrounds, the Soldotna Parks and Recreation Department are now advising the public not to use the Centennial Park walking trail and campground. It will be closed from May 1st through May 20th for all users. Contractors will be removing some of the beetle-killed trees and advise the public not to enter the park.
The previous city council resolution proposed to mitigate the risk of wildfire originating or traversing municipal lands that would impact critical infrastructure, cause loss and damage to private homes, businesses, and community assets.
The scope of work included the removal of beetle killed trees and fire hazard mitigation activities on more than 375 acres of municipally owned property. The administration had requested authorization to solicit bids from contractors to perform mitigation activities at Centennial Campground, Swiftwater Campground, Soldotna Memorial Park, Aspen Park (and Three Friends Dog Park), and Parker Park.
Beginning May 1st to May 20th, Centennial Park walking trail and campground will be closed for all users.
