Central Peninsula Basketball Teams Sweep Thursday Pairings

With only three weekends remaining in the regular season for high school basketball, SoHi, Kenai and Nikiski teams face conference and non-conference opponents in home contests.

 

On Thursday, the Soldotna Stars sweep Palmer, the Kenai boys down the Mariners and the Nikiski girls hold-off 4A Wasilla.

 

SoHi vs Palmer & Wasilla   Northern Lights Conference

Current standings in the 4A Northern Lights Conference find the Soldotna girls at 6-0 in the NLC and Wasilla at 4-0 in conference play.  The SoHi boys stand at 4-2 in the NLC; the Wasilla boys hold a 3-1 conference record.  The Palmer girls and boys are in search of their first conference victories.

SoHi Girls 61 – Palmer 25

The Soldotna girls controlled play throughout Thursday’s Northern Lights Conference home contest against the Palmer Moose defeating Palmer 61-25.  SoHi lead 33-9 at the half and 48-18 after three quarters.  Brittani Blossom lead all scorers with 18 points; Itu Tuisaula added 17 for the Stars.  SoHi improves to 6-0 in the NLC.

SoHi Boys 52 – Palmer 45

The Soldotna boys rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Palmer 52-45.  The Stars trailed 22-21 at the half and 30-29 after three quarters.  SoHi made a 7-2 run late in the fourth quarter exploiting Palmer’s full court press.  Jersey Truesdell scored 12 points and Ray Chumley added 10 points for SoHi.  The Star boys improve to 4-2 in the NLC.

Nikiski vs Wasilla & Seward   Southcentral Conference

The Nikiski girls opened play on Thursday with a decisive 57-49 victory against the 4A Wasilla Warriors girls.  The Bulldogs face Southcental Conference opponent Seward on Friday night at Nikiski.  The Bulldog girls currently stand at 8-0 in the SCC; the Nikiski boys stand at 4-4 in the SCC.

Nikiski Girls 57 – Wasilla 49   @ Nikiski 

The Nikiski girls, 16-2 on the season and 8-0 in the Southcentral Conference, defeat 4A power Wasilla 57-49 with a second half rally to outscore the Warriors 31-18 in the final 16 minutes.  Bethany Carstens lead the Bulldogs with 22 points; Kelsey Clark scored 12 and Emma Wik added 11 for the Bulldogs.

Kenai vs Homer, Palmer & Seward

The Kenai Kardinals face Southcentral Conference opponents Homer and Seward and squeeze-in a non-conference Palmer pairing on Friday.  The Kenai girls stand at 4-2 in the SCC and face 0-5 Seward on Friday.

Kenai Boys 44 – Homer 40

The Kardinal boys improved to 5-0 Southcentral Conference play with a 44-40 victory over the Homer Mariners on Thursday.  Andrew Bezdecny scored 18 points to lead Kenai; Adam Trujillo added 12 points.
