As schools in the Central portion of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District are finally set to open on Tuesday, September 8, parents and students alike should be reminded that many schools throughout the district have adjusted their opening and closing times.
KPBSD staff say they have focused on planning for the new school year with their 2020 Smart Start plan, and changes due to COVID-19. Enrollment numbers and education delivery choices for each school are becoming clear through the completion of returning student update forms, and school phone calls to families.
In order to provide quality onsite in schools and 100% remote learning options for families choosing that option, additional time for staff preparation, collaboration, and cleaning of buildings resulted in an adjusted student day for some of the 42 Kenai Peninsula Borough School District schools. The change in start or end time decision was determined on a school-by-school basis with district administration, site administration, and in consultation with Apple Bus.
Apple Bus has updated bus routes and has been updating their parent portal frequently, but parents and guardians who at-all feel unsure about Tuesday’s return-to-schools should contact their school today with questions about school times or enrollment.
