Central Emergency Services in Soldotna is reminding residents to keep the fire hydrants clear. As the snow continues to fall, CES asks residents not to plow in your hydrants.
For first responders like fire personnel, every second counts and with the deep snowbanks, due to the recent heavy snowfall, it can take firefighters precious minutes to locate and dig out fire hydrants, which delays CES crews from performing crucial tasks such as search and rescue and fire extinguishment.
Central Emergency Services is asking all Soldotna residents to dig out the fire hydrants. An area of three feet around all sides with a clear path to the street is necessary to help extinguish fires quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency.
