Former Central Emergency Services Captain Dick Kapp stepped out of retirement in January of 2015 to coordinate a new volunteer program that’s seen great success. On Saturday, his colleagues acknowledged his over 31 years of commitment and loyalty to CES with a Golden Axe Award.
Kapp says he was surprised by the plaque and recognition…
Kapp: “The axe is special in the fire department for those who do retire, basically it’s your life for your time in the fire department.”
For the first time since its inception the volunteer program is fully staffed and Kapp says the training and program continues to evolve.
Kapp: “Oh it’s great, we have such good people, they’re so dedicated and they give so much, I just enjoy it to no end.”
He says the program appreciates the support from the community and encourages anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with CES to stop by any of the Kenai Peninsula stations to get more information.
