Charges Against Boy Scout Manager Not Going Away

A former Boy Scout store manager is accused of stealing more than $27,000 from the organization, but charges have now been dropped against 46-year-old Michael Saunders.

Earlier this month a judge ruled that Saunders’ right to a speedy trial had not been fulfilled and dismissed the case. But the State will continue to pursue the issue.

According to court documents, Saunders is accused of reimbursing himself for nonexistent purchases on personal credits cards for four years while he was the manager of the Scouts’ Anchorage store.

Regan Williams represents Saunders and says the State wants jail time, but community service would be a better solution. Williams says Saunders has been responsible for monthly $300 restitution payments.
