Chenault Worries Reserve Tax will Discourage LNG Partnerships

After Royal Dutch Shell announced their pause in Arctic drilling, Governor Bill Walker said the state needs to focus on the AK LNG Project but some worry he is making project partnerships too difficult. 

 

Nikiski’s Speaker of the House Mike Chenault says the governor’s newly proposed natural gas reserves tax is not a way to guarantee the project will happen.

Spkr. Chenault(R-District 29): “I don’t believe that reserves tax is a way to incentivize our partners in a $65 billion project in line with the state of Alaska. i think it causes uncertainty and I think uncertainty will be what kills the gas pipeline project.”

 

He says only the state working collaboratively with the partners of the AK LNG Project will make the gasline a reality.
