Chugach National Forest opened Turnagain Pass Area for over-snow motorized use as of Wednesday, Nov. 25. Before venturing out, users are cautioned to prepare for adverse weather and winter hazards. Weather and road conditions can change rapidly.

When traveling on the forest, be aware that avalanche conditions may exist and Know Before You Go. Avalanche advisories and resources can be found at the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center website – www.chugachavalanche.org. Be considerate of other riders, steer clear of wildlife and carry the appropriate avalanche safety gear.

Road conditions in the Kenai Peninsula may be difficult. Low light conditions, poor visibility, wildlife, and ice and snow on roads and bridges can make driving hazardous. Visit Alaska Department of Transportation website at https://511.alaska.gov/map for travel updates and warnings.

Please be patient as the Alaska Department of Transportation plows the roads and the parking areas in Turnagain Pass. Snowplow operators work hard to make the roads you travel on as safe as possible. Parking along the roadway is not advised and may hinder snow plowing and delay access to the parking areas.
