The Cook Inlet Academy boys earned the 1A Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament championship on Friday night with a 44-34 victory over the Lumen Christi Archangel boys; the Eagles qualifying to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships.
In the girls championship game, Lumen Christi defeated Cook Inlet 52-32 for the Peninsula Conference girls championship. The Cook Inlet girls will play Saturday for second place and a berth to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships.
Cook Inlet Academy Boys 44 – Lumen Christi Boys 34
After trailing 22-17 at the half, the Eagles pulled-away from the Archangels in the second half for a 44-34 boys championship game victory. The Eagles earn the #1 Peninsula Conference seed to the ASAA 1A State basketball Championships.
Abraham Henderson led the Eagles with 14 points, Alek McGarry added 13 and Ian McGarry scored 11 points.
Lumen will play on Saturday for the second berth to the state tournament against the winner of the Birchwood vs Nanwalek game.
Lumen Christi Girls 52 – Cook Inlet Academy Girls 32
The host Lumen Christi girls controlled play for a 25-19 halftime advantage and held the CIA girls to 13 second half points in a 52-32 Archangel victory in the girls championship game.
Cook Inlet’s Hope Hillyer scored 12 points; Ella Rollman and Tatum Rozak each scored 10 points. The Eagles return to play Birchwood Academy in the second place game Saturday at noon for a berth to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships.
