A tough afternoon for the Cook Inlet Academy basketball programs at the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships as both the girls and boys fall in tournament play on Friday; the boys are eliminated and the girls will return on Saturday in the third-place game.
CIA Boys 42 – New Halen 66
The Eagle boys owned a 15-13 lead after one quarter and trailed 24-22 early in the second half against New Halen, before the Malemutes scored 24 points in the third quarter and pulled-away for a 66-42 elimination game victory.
Ian McGarry topped the Eagles with 19 points and Abraham Henderson added 10 points in the loss. Cook Inlet is eliminated from the 1A boys tournament; New Halen will play in the 4th-Place game on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.
CIA Girls 35 – Shaktoolik 41
Foul trouble and 26% shooting proved too much to overcome for the Cook Inlet Academy girls as the Eagles fell to Shaktoolik 41-36 after leading by ten at the half in the 1A girls winner’s-bracket, semi-final.
CIA led 27-17 at the half and managed only one field goal in the third quarter. Still leading 29-26 to start the fourth quarter; the Eagles allow 15 point in the final quarter. For the game, Ella Rollman scored 13; Hope Hillyer, 12; and Tatum Rozak, 10.
The Cook Inlet girls will play in the 3rd-Place game on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center.
