CIA Girls Rally Late For 52-47 Win Over Tanalian

In a battle between the Kenai Peninsula Cook Inlet Academy girls and the “Across the Inlet” Tanalian girls, Cook Inlet rallied in the fourth quarter for a 52-47 victory in the ASAA 1A Girls State Basketball Championships on Thursday.

Trailing most of the final quarter, Cook Inlet rallied behind a 9-point effort in the fourth quarter by Hope Hillyer for a 52-47 victory and advance to the winner’s bracket, semi-final on Friday.

Ella Rollman led the offense for three quarters for the Eagle girls with 24 points before fouling-out in the fourth quarter.  Tanalian, from Port Alsworth, held an 18-17 lead at the half and led 35-31 after three quarters.  Brielle Lorenstsen topped the Lynx with 15 points.

 

The CIA girls advance to play Shaktoolik (winners over Aqqaluk) in Friday’s semi-final game at 3:15 p.m.
