The Cook Inlet Academy co-ed soccer team completed an undefeated 12-0 regular season and earns the top seed into the ASAA Borealis Conference Soccer Championships scheduled for next week in Palmer.
According to CIA head soccer coach Kenny Leaf…
On Friday Cook Inlet Academy defeated the Birchwood Christian warriors 6-0 in Borealis Conference play. Noah Castenholz finished with 3 goals, Abe Henderson with a pair, and Jeremiah Dillingham provided an offensive burst on the field coming out of the goal in the second half to add a goal and an assist. Jeremiah and Rebekah Dillingham shared the shutout for the Eagles. Final Score: CIA 6 – Birchwood 0
On Saturday morning, the Academy celebrated their final home game by recognizing their six seniors: Ty Saylor, Rachel Johnson, Abraham Henderson, Britt Hall, Trayton Keller, and Noah Castenholz. Hosting the Nenana Lynx, CIA was sluggish in the first half, scoring just two goals (Castenholz / 19th; Henderson / 27th) and surrendering a goal to a penalty kick (30th) to hold a slim 2-1 lead.
However, the Eagles exploded in the first ten minutes of the second half, pounding the Lynx’s goal with a relentless barrage. Golden Musgrave scored his first of the season and Jeremy Dillingham added a pair to make the final score CIA 5 – Nenana 1.
