The Alaska Department of Transportation has planned closures for the Seward Highway, south of Bird Creek on Tuesdays and Thursdays through July.
Beginning tomorrow, July 7, the one mile construction project to add a passing lane will be closing the highway from 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
Shannon McCarthy with the DOT…
McCarthy: “Mile 99 to 100 improvements and it’s rehabilitating the pavement along that stretch of road and actually widening the highway for a passing lane for the northbound traffic.”
That project will widen the current highway around 34-38 feet.
The 9:30-10:30 pm closures are planned through July and will fall on the following dates: July 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30.
For all other weekdays, drivers should expect new traffic patterns with lane shifts, intermittent lane restrictions, flagging operations and minimal delays from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
