The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an unidentified man from the fishing vessel Alaska Ocean over the weekend. He was located 30 miles northeast of Cold Bay.
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medivacked a man at 10:30 p.m. Sunday and transferred him to the local Cold Bay medical clinic to wait for further transport to Anchorage. The 17th District command center in Juneau received a request for the medivac just hours earlier to rescue a 45-year-old crew member who suffered a crushing injury to the arm.
17th District command center watchstander Lt. Joseph Wineke said that the medivac was conducted efficiently so the patient could receive a higher level of medical care. The fishing vessel Alaska Ocean was 60 miles from Cold Bay when they placed the call for help.
