Colorado Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

A Colorado man was arrested in Soldotna for an outstanding warrant last weekend.

Soldotna police officers responded to Hooligans for a disturbance on May 9 and arrested 52 year-old David Leroy of Greely, Colorado, for being a fugitive of justice from the State of Colorado.

Sgt. Duane Kant said the warrant did not specify what Leroy was wanted for and no additional charges were filed against him but he is in Wildwood awaiting extradition to Colorado.

Kant said in those cases, the arrested can be held for up to 30 days on what’s called a governor’s warrant.

Kant: “We contact the agency who issued the warrant and we say hey this is who we are and where we are and we have this subject here but the problem with the fugitive of justice warrants is that the originating agency is responsible to come get him and a lot of times it becomes a budgetary issue to come get him and once they realize where Soldotna, Alaska, is or Alaska in general they’re like year it’s going to cost us way too much money to come up there and get him so we’re not going to do that.”

In those cases, the arrested is released.

Sergeant Kant said Leroy was up here working.
