Committee Reverses $20k Idea For Kenai City Council Dais

A committee decision on City Clerk seating, which would have cost Kenai taxpayers $20-30,000, was reversed last night….

Cm. Marquis: “When I saw the price tag and how little we would actually get for that… $25,000 is a lot just to add another seat up here. I think there’s room for improvement with what we have up here, but I don’t think we have a fully fleshed out plan for what that would look like and I’m not ready to spend $25,000 on one seat.”

Councilor Ryan Marquis explained the renovation would have moved the City Clerk from the floor of City Hall up to the dais, where she could confer easily with the City Attorney on legal issues.

Councilors were unanimous that the price for convenience was too high, and agreed there was only one real change they need immediately…

Cm. Marquis: “More of us are using electronics, laptops and tablets to do our business. Right now there’s not really an opportunity for us to keep those devices charged and there’s been longer meetings where we’ve run into dead batteries.”

The Council ultimately decided to go back to the drawing board and develop a new all-inclusive plan.
