Thanksgiving is next week and these are a few ways to help fellow community members before the holiday.
The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will host a Thanksgiving dinner next Wednesday. Linda Swarner with the Food Bank…
Swarner: “We need turkeys and anything else that goes with a holiday dinner. This year we’re particularly short on turkeys and some of the other accompanying items. We’ll be distributing boxes to families with children 18 and under beginning on Monday.”
Those interested in helping to prepare or serve Wednesday’s meal at the Food Bank on K-Beach can call 262-3111.
Kenai’s Salvation Army will hold a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day open to anyone interested in attending. Envoy Craig Fanning…
Fanning: “Pie is probably the best thing we’re in need of now, I think we have everything else covered at this point so if somebody wanted to donate a pie, pumpkin or berry pie, we could still use those.”
Salvation Army’s Thanksgiving Day dinner will be held on Thursday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the church located at 201 N. Forest Drive. Anyone interested in volunteering can call 283-4035. Fanning says they are already taking volunteer applications for bell ringers also.
Kenai’s all-men’s shelter, the Friendship Mission also hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner. Mary Anne Cowgill with the Mission says they have plenty of food for the six or so men that they are currently helping, but encourages the community to donate to other organizations this holiday.
