Community Secret Santa Program Sees Huge Response

Christmas gifts and dinners were delivered to 50 families in need on Saturday through Kenai’s Secret Santa program.

Mountain View Elementary School Secretary Kim Remsen says almost every family that applied was sponsored, and monetary donations from individuals took care of the rest.

Remsen: “The ones that weren’t sponsored we’ve gone shopping for, we did get some monetary donations from the community and then I have a small group of us that go out and go shopping and purchase what’s needed for those families.”

She says the program has been going for nearly thirty years and this year saw a huge community response.

We spoke with a Secret Santa, who sponsored a family this year for the first time.

“I’ve always been a proponent of helping locally and I’ve never been able to find someplace before where I could do that and this year I saw on KSRM a place that you could do that by being a Secret Santa.”

Since the beginning of December, the Christmas gifts and dinners were collected at Mountain View Elementary and Kenai Middle School.

Volunteers worked late into Friday night to help organize those for Saturday’s distribution.
