Kards & Stars Split Conference Basketball Battles In Northern Lights Conference

Early season conference basketball showdowns in the Northern Lights Conference featured a last-second victory for the Kenai Kardinal girls over the Soldotna Stars and a high scoring SoHi boys win over the Kenai Kardinals.

 

Kardinals Girls  27 – SoHi 26    

The Kenai Kardinal girls grasped victory from defeat with no time remaining on the clock; Kenai senior Abby Beck scoring the game-winning basket from one knee as time expired for a 27-26 Kardinal win.

Scoring was hard to come by for both teams through extended periods.  The Stars scored only one field goal in both the first and third quarters and the Kardinal girls suffered a long drought as SoHi rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 26-25 lead into the final :06 seconds.  Beck’s final basket was her 11th point of the game and made Beck the game’s leading scorer.

The SoHi girls lead 12-11 at the half and the Kardinals lead 16-14 after three quarters.

Final Score: Kenai 27, SoHi 26

SoHI Boys 69 – Kenai 54

The Soldotna Star boys, on the strength of five, second-half three point shots, pulled away from the Kenai boys for a 69-54 SoHi Northern Lights Conference victory.  The Kardinals lead 31-30 at the half and SoHi lead 49-43 after three quarters.  A 20-point, fourth quarter sealed the game for the SoHi boys.  Caleb Spence scored 19 for SoHi and Eli Sheridan added 18; Kyle Marcyson scored 11 in the fourth quarter, including three, straight 3-point shots.  Josh Jackman topped the Kards with 23 points.

Final Score: SoHi 69, Kenai 54

 

Kenai & SoHi Basketball Schedule

The SoHi girls travel to Barrow for games on Friday and Saturday.  The Star boys will compete at the Palmer Elks Shootout, with games beginning on Thursday.   The Kenai boys will battle at the South Tournament beginning with a first round game on Thursday.
