The regular season for high school hockey features North Star Conference pairings for all teams in the NSC. The final regular season standings will determine seeding into the North Star Conference tournament scheduled for February 2-4 at the MTA Center in Palmer.
Kenai 6 – Homer 5 Overtime
An overtime goal by Matt Hagel secured the Kardinals first conference victory of the regular season, breaking a 5-5 tie for a 6-5 Kenai win over the Homer Mariners.
Both teams traded goals throughout the game. Kenai opening with goals by Levi Mese and Matt Hagel for a 2-0 lead; only to allow three goals to the Mariners for a 3-2 Homer lead after one period. Bailey Maxson tied the game for Kenai early in the second period; however, Homer again took the lead by period’s end. The third period opened with a Miles Marston goal and closed with a Levi Mese goal for a 5-5 deadlock after regulation.

The Kenai Kardinals improve to 2-7 in the NSC, and will host the Soldotna Stars on Saturday, January 28th at the Kenai Ice Rink. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Soldotna Stars travel to Homer’s Kevin Bell Arena for a North Star Conference contest agains the Homer Mariners on Thursday, January 26th. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
SoHi currently stands at 3-4-1 in conference play, with the opportunity to advance to the #3 seed in the upcoming tournament with a pair of victories this week.
The Stars defeated Homer 3-0 in NSC play in December.
