Conference & Non-Conference Games Fill Saturday Football Schedule

With three weekends remaining in the regular season for high school football, week six of the regular season features the Nikiski Bulldogs at home against Peninsula Conference opponent Homer, the Soldotna Stars on the road to battle Northern Lights Conference Kodiak and the Kenai Kardinals at home for a non-conference pairing against Large School opponent Chugiak; all three games on Saturday.

 

Nikiski vs Homer     2:00 p.m.   Nikiski High School     KKIS 96.5 FM and www.radiokenai.com

The Bulldogs look to extend their current win streak to four straight on Saturday when Nikiski hosts Homer.  The Bulldogs have scored 91 points in two Peninsula conference games with victories over Vosnesenka and Joe Redington, allowing just one touchdown in the past two weeks.  Matt Minium and Patrick Perry lead the ground game and Ian Johnson at quarterback has found a weapon in tight end Baker Hensley.  Nikiski stands at 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Peninsula Conference.

Kenai vs Chugiak     2:00 p.m.    KCHS     KSRM 920AM and www.radiokenai.com

The Kardinals, coming off a decisive Northern Lights Conference victory over Kodiak, will play their final home game of the season on Saturday against Railbelt (Large School) opponent Chugiak High School.  The Kardinals stand at 3-2 on the season and face a third, Large School opponent in the Mustangs.  The Kardinals stand at 2-0 in the Northern Lights Conference with a pair of conference games remaining to close the regular season.

Kenai’s balanced offense features a solid ground game behind Rykker Riddall and Zack Tuttle and a passing game with Chase Gillies connecting with eight different receivers.

Soldotna vs Kodiak     2:00 p.m.   Kodiak High School     ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com

The Soldotna Stars travel to “The Rock” for a week six, Northern Lights Conference battle against the Kodiak Bears.  The Stars offense has averaged over 40 points per game through five games and the Stars defense has allowed only four touchdowns in the first half of the five contests.  SoHi’s offensive attack features a ground game which has amassed nearly 1500 yards and a passing game which accounts for 13 touchdowns.

The Stars stand at 5-0 on the regular season and 1-0 in the Northern Lights Conference.  SoHi’s state record win streak now stands at 44-straight victories.
